In the Distortion Theory one will find very clear examples of its functioning in the world of UFO casuistry.
An incident involving an Italian woman, Jole Maltoni, dramatizes, perfectly, all the precepts of the Distortion Theory, showing that within close encounters there lies a psychological phenomenon, channeled and directed by an as yet identified external agent, connecting with the mind of witnesses to represent a chimera of extraterrestrial visitation.
In Ravenna (Emilia-Romagna, Italy), on the night of September 3, 1976, at about 01:00 hours, Ms. Maltoni was in bed when she heard a noise, like the cry of a bird, that came from outside.
She got up and looked around but found nothing.
Looking out the window, she saw, in the courtyard, between two houses, a strange egg-shaped object with protuberances formed by four or five spheres.
Looking more carefully, she saw a humanoid with a height of 1.75 meters, which seemed to have on its head an antique helmet in the Roman style with a central bulge, like a nail.
The humanoid’s face was smooth. He was dressed as a "Roman soldier."
The witness could only see from the abdomen up. She could not see the humanoid’s legs.
The being walked with a martial style, and went by the entrance to the courtyard, his head slightly tilted towards the ground.
Ms. Maltoni walked to another window, hoping to see the humanoid better but could not.
Returning to the first point of observation, she found that all had gone, the strange object and the "Roman soldier.”
It was logical to expect that if a witness watched a crew of a UFO that looked like "Roman Legion," it should happen in Italy.
Not only the physical appearance of the humanoid was similar to that of a Roman soldier, but also how he or it behaved: walking like that of a soldier.
It is evident that the distortion of the unconscious elements of the witness are reflected perfectly in this experience.
Also to add more etheral, "dream" items to this almost ghostly story, the entity did not display legs.
And like many other UFO experiences with humanoids and their artifacts, they simply appear and disappear magically.
But who or what thing is the external agent, that produces the distortion?
From the analysis of close encounters (published in this blog) we can deduce certain aspects:
1) Probably the external agent is "something" immaterial and intangible, linked to psychic energy, yet it can produce three-dimensional images of the environment, and even physical matter (traces, burns, et cetera).
2) The “agent” seems to have no interest in communicating any kind of intelligent message, to be understood as an intellectual or scientific message.
3) The information contained in close encounters -- the external appearance of the humanoid and the appearance of the aircraft, or any conversation offered during the encounter -- is the result of the distortion of information that is purely human in origination.
4) The distortion is a consequence of the interaction (communication) between the psyche of the witness and the external agent.
5) The external agent is able to tune in to the human mind, read its contents, and distort information, and present it in a three-dimensional and sometimes physical way that in language and content is very similar to a dream.
6) During the close encounter, the psychic communication between the external agent and the mind of the witness is controlled by an unknown factor, controlling and organizing the elements to give the experience some coherence, sometimes adding common elements from other close encounters.
7) Neither the action nor the stage, or the crew of close encounters is determined or prepared before the experience. The content of the anomalous experiences are the result of an interaction between the external agent and the psyche of the witness. The UFO incident is created at the time when the two "minds" are in tune, and developed upon afterwards.
Just a few basic elements are provided by the foreign agent with premeditation. The rest arises from the experience when the interaction occurs.
Even the external agent cannot predict the content of close encounters.
The unconscious of the witness gives content and manufactures many elements and behavior of the alleged "aliens" at will, as does our mind with dreams.

LITTLE HUMANOIDS IN FRANCE
Copyright 2012, InterAmerica, Inc.
On October 9, 1954 at 18:30 pm in the village of la Chétive Pournoy (Moselle), Gilbert Calba, 12, Daniel Hirsh, 9, and Jean-Pierre Hirsch, 5 years, playing near the cemetery, observed a brilliant machine landing near them.
It was a circular object about 2.50 m in diameter that came to rest on three legs.
The object had black, yellow and white lines on it.
A small humanoid emerged, wearing a "black robe" (similar to a priest), 1.20 meters high.
In his hand he held a "flashlight" whose brightness blinded the children.

The youngsters told reporters that the humanoid had large eyes, his face was covered with hair.
The strange “man” spoke in a language that the children did not understand, and they ran away, scared.
When they returned to the site, they only saw a very bright light in the sky.
Another young man, Robert Maguin, 16, confirmed that he, too, saw a strange, bright flying object that night.
The researcher Gallo Jean Sider, said that the alleged landing area had a mark that was visible for many years.
Fifteen years after this incident, again in France, we found a very similar case of small humanoids associated with a circular object, also observed by children.

On the morning of August 29, 1967, in a small town in France, Cussac, of 282 residents, two children are the protagonists of a close encounter very well-known in the Gallic country.
Francois, 13, and Anne-Marie, 9, accompanied by their dog Rover, at 8:00 in the morning are caring for a herd of ten cows. The sky is totally clear.

About 10:30 a.m., the cows were behaving very strangely, and Francois realized that on the other side of the road, about 80 feet away, there are four "children" completely "black," near a brilliant sphere about 4.5 meters in diameter, supported by 3 or 4 straight legs.

The brilliant sphere was so bright that it was difficult to look at.
It was partially hidden by bushes. The humanoids were all of different heights, the tallest two measured 1.20 meters and the two smaller beings measured about 1 meter.
They were dressed in bright black silk, bright, although witnesses confirmed they didn’t know if it was clothing or the skin of the humanoids.
The arms were thin and longer than normal. By contrast the legs were shorter.
The heads appeared normal, although the skull and chin, were pronounced.

They seemed to have a beard or hair on different parts of their faces and pointed noses.
When the humanoids became aware of the children, one by one, they begin to float upward, their arms close to their bodies, burrowing their way into the top of the bright sphere.

The Children could not see an aperture or door in the object.
One of the humanoids rises returned to pick up something on the ground, in the grass which seemed to be a rectangular object, reflecting sunlight (Francois said as mirror).
Anne-Marie, who observed more details, told reporters that the humanoids had webbed feet, like birds.
When the four humanoids entered the object, it began to rise, rotating and emitting a loud whistle, while its brightness increased dramatically.

The object moved away at high speed, in the air leaving a smell of sulfur.
The children’s cows, as well as some cows in a field near by, were disturbed by the presence of the stranger artifact.
The sighting lasted between 21 and 35 seconds.
Francois who wore glasses developed minor vision problems; his eyes watered for several days.
However his sister, who did not wear glasses, had no symptoms.
The police arrived at the scene of the alleged landing six hours after the incident, and perceived the smell of sulfur and found an area of about five meters in diameter where the grass was yellow in color.
The GEPAN research, determined that three other people indirectly witnessed the incident.
Especially important was the testimony of a policeman who, at his home, about 500 meters from the landing place, heard a strange hissing sound.
The investigating judge in the case said in his report, "The various elements all point to the reality of the testimony of the children: their fear (observed by others), other witnesses who are trustworthy adults, the odor, noise, and behavior of the animals. There are, in these diverse elements, no cracks, no discrepancy to doubt the sincerity of the testimony."
Gaul researchers had shown astonishment that the children, at a distance of 80 meters, and only for 30 seconds, were able to see so many little details: pointed noses, "beards," pronounced chin, webbed feet, et cetera.
According to the Theory of Distortion, normal perception is altered, as discussed in a previous article devoted to the incident in Ventura Maceiras.
The interaction between the “external agent” and the psyche of witnesses makes it possible for the memory to retain details and vision of the experience in a heightened stage of perception, as in dreams, where distance and obstacles do not interfere with certain aspects of our dream-like environment.

THE 1954 MACERATA ENCOUNTER
Copyright 2012, InterAmerica, Inc.
On October 25 1954, in Col Cerasa de Cingoli (Macerata, Italy), two children, 12 year-olds Marziano Giampieri and Pacifico Santucci, were guarding a flock of sheep in a meadow near Mount Sgaggia.
About 17:00 pm, they went to buy a sandwich, and upon returning, they were surprised to find the animals a little further from where they had left them, and the dogs were barking furiously.
As they neared the place, Giampieri observed "something" moving through the high weeds which he thought they were animals, but about 10 feet away, he saw that it was a small, thin “thing” about 30/40 centimeters tall, of human appearance, but with a large melon-shaped head.

It wore dark, tight-fitting clothes with a metallic sheen.
It moved in a very clumsy way.
Giampieri did not know if the odd shape of the head was because it wore a flattened helmet.
The tiny humanoid started running towards a strange dark object, shaped like a barrel, 1.50 meters long and 70 centimeters wide, which at one end had something like "antennae.”
The object quickly rose vertically, emitting a low whistle.
Going up about 20 meters, the "flying barrel" ejected a ball of fire, which exploded when it hit the ground.

The two children were hit by a violent gust of wind caused by the shockwave of the explosion.
The object disappeared at high speed, heading east.
The youths fled in fear.
That same day, a neighbor in the area, Maria Ruggeri, confirmed she had seen a strange flying object pass over her head.
Police in Crawley and San Severino Marche, investigated the incident.
Forensic experts were sent from Naples and the current president of the Scientific Association "Bilancia” Ancona, Mr. Andrea Quintini, interviewed the children.
The newspaper "La Nazzione" on October 28, 1954, offered a version of the events recounted by a professor at College of San Severino Merche.

In its pages, readers discovered that the strange encounter took place near the village of Santa Filomena Colcero on the border between the municipalities of San Severino and Cingoli.
While the two boys were back home, they saw, about 10 meters distance from them, three small beings with big heads, fully dressed in gray with heights of about 30-35 cm.
As soon as the shepherds saw the humanoids, they (the three beings) escaped, climbing into a small shining object of spherical shape, with two kinds of propellers on the front.
According to the description of the two boys, the two propellers were set in motion and the apparatus raised up, making a hissing sound at high speed, disappearing in the direction of Monte Verde.
At the time of takeoff, the object, expelled a burning balloon.
The two boys recounted the encounter to their teacher.
The incident of Macerata has many factors in common with other small humanoid sightings in 1953/54 (Villares del Saz; Spain and Cennina; Italy), where the observed objects are very similar.

This shows a distortion in the shape and sizes of the elements which contribute to the close encounter, depending upon the witnesses.

Obviously, the noted 1954 incident of Mrs. Rosa Lotti Dainelli, by virtue of her being an adult, contains more details and complexity compared to the simplicity of the cases experienced by the young children.
